Our Typical Worship Service

CHILDREN’S PEW PACKERS: Meet up front before adult worship begins, say a few Bible verses and sing a few children’s songs. Adults are welcome to join in.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: We encourage our members to be of assistance to the sick, bereaved, shut-ins, new babies, etc. Our announcements are to make everyone aware of them. Written announcements are included in the bulletin everyone receives upon arrival.

Curtis leading singing

SONG SERVICE is led by various men of the congregation. We do not spend money on professionals. Nor do we have choirs, quartets or other entertainers. Our worship is simple. We think of it as being dynamic in its simplicity.

SINGING: God required a choir of Levites to sing and specific instruments to be played by Levites in Temple worship in Old Testament times (I Chronicles 25:6). But the Old Law was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14 and Hebrews 9), and God did not require them in the New Testament church. You will be delighted by our congregational a cappella singing.

PRAYING: Members and visitors are encouraged to write down their prayer requests and thanksgivings and give to one of the men. These people will be prayed for during our service and in private. The previous week’s prayer requests are always included in the bulletin. And there is an updated on-going prayer request list available in the bulletin. God loves to answer prayers.

LORD’S SUPPER/COMMUNION: You will be pleased to learn that we celebrate what the Christian world calls Easter every Sunday as did first-century Christians (Acts 20:7). If you are into meditation, you will find this an excellent time for that. We partake of the unleavened bread remembering Jesus’ body that died for us carrying the punishment for our sins, and the fruit of the vine remembering the blood of Jesus that was shed for us. And we meditate upon the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

COLLECTION: The Old Testament required tithing, but since the Old Law was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:14), members give as they decide in their heart (I Corinthians 16:1). Visitors need not participate.

BIBLE READING: There are so many confusing denominations, we go directly to the Bible,  God’s Words, to learn how God himself wants us to live and worship, not how we want to. There are several translations from the original Hebrew and Greek, so what is read may not be word for word the same as your translation, but the meaning is the same.

PREACHING: We encourage you to take notes to the preaching. Then go home and check it out. If you have questions, doubts or challenges about what he said, our preacher urges you to contact him.

INVITATION: Some denominations use the term “altar call.” People are invited to go to the front during an “invitation” song and request prayers of the church or to be baptized.

baptism-sherry1BAPTISM: In the event there is a baptism, you will see that it is by immersion in imitation of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:1-6). It is for “forgiveness of sins” (Acts 2:38 and 22:16) and to “put on Christ” (Galatians 3:26), for “even so does baptism now save us” (I Peter 3:21). It is an exciting and moving time for everyone.
